home again

This is why I love the microchip. I have my own bittersweet experience with a microchip in one of our cats. This story though, has such a great ending.

Thought about chipping your own furry friends. Check out the home again website.

Independence Day

Happy 4th of July!!!

Today I have already celebrated my independence by sleeping in to an undisclosed time of day.... fabulous!!!!

Tonight, I will probably continue my celebration via drinking booze and watching fireworks!

How American!!

What will you all be doing today to celebrate?!?!?

summer of jazz

Every Wednesday for about 8 weeks of the summer, Glenwood Springs puts on FREE jazz concerts in one of their parks.
Its fun.
A good time.
People picnic, have some drinks, catch up with friends, and listen to jazz. All ages of people. Its great.

This past Wednesday was the Hot 8 Brass Band. I think they are from New Orleans. They were good.

I enjoyed watching the family in front of us and their dog. I thought their dog was about a year old. He was big and frisky. I went to see if i could pet him (of course) and was informed that this tank of a dog was only 5 months..... and 80 pounds!!!! Turns out he is a lab mixed with probably a great dane. *sigh* Imagine the food they go through!!!

swimming with a bit of inspiration

We try to take our dog Bailey to the river (the colorado river) to run, play and swim, every weekend. I get to tan, ladd gets to drink beer (give him this treat, and he is more willing to participate in water activites :P ) and Bailey gets to have the time of her life!

There are usually rafters going by or exiting the river where we go to hang out. Its fun to see all these people enjoying each other and the outdoors. I really feel like a colorado girl when I'm out there. So much of the population here is so outdoors-y.

Bailey sometimes meets new dog friends and that is fun for me too. I play with as many of them as I can! :)

Everytime we've been there so far, we have seen latino families out enjoying the sun and watching all the rafters. I smile inside and out, everytime.

I love this.

I love to see their children so happy and having fun and enjoying their picnic and swimming.... (the children giggle with excitement at Bailey and shout, "un perro, un perro!!")

I am reminded of how so many of the population of latinos here are probably first or second or third generation americans. To think of what they or their parents went through to get here and start a life full of opportunity makes my heart skip a beat.

When I watched these young latino children play with each other in the water and speak such fluent english, while being fluent in spanish, it made me so proud of them. Happy for them. They (hopefully) have an amazing future ahead FULL of wonderful opportunities. They have hope, dreams, determination.... freedom.

I welcome them and their families here with big arms and support. And I commend and thank their parents or grandparents for their sacrifices to give this future to them.

So. Awesome.

camping in colorado

In mid June, we went camping in colorado for the first time ever!!! It was wonderful.

We camped in one of the MANY campsites in the White River National Forest. That particular national forest is huge and covers a large portion of colorado and I think even parts of wyoming. It is one of the most sought out national forests and its pretty much in our back yard! Yee-haw!!

There were no problems with bears, racoons, etc. I was expecting something "interesting" might occur with the local wildlife, but alas, no problems!

We shall do this again, soon! There are so many places to choose to camp here in colorado. Its hard to decide where to go next. .....stay tuned for our next camping adventure!
