our 6th anniversary

We have created a tradition to go to the Hotel Colorado when significant events occur (and sometimes just for fun to have drinks on the patio).

feline management

Yes, cats are trainable. They are smart. In fact, some sources say they are smarter than dogs, but choose not to "obey" us. (hence the smarter than dogs theory)

Regardless, I took a feline management class this semester. I thought since I am hoping and dreaming ( my life dream, actually ) to work with large cats, that this might be a good investment of my extra time.

Only time will tell. Nonetheless, here are some photos of the 5 day course.

Part of the time was spent grooming and socializing with the cats at the rescue center (a 2-3 minute walk from our vet tech center).

Enjoy.

P.S. a lot of these cats are from the hording situation that I blogged about before.

mail in ballot

Ladd chose to vote this way, this year. He felt he had less pressure and it was more convenient.

I have to chronicle this moment, nonetheless. It was such an important election!!!

Oktoberfest

I love October, as you have read in previous posts.

OKTOBERFEST is one of the reasons.

Here in Glenwood Springs and Carbondale, its a fairly big deal. There are festivals, though small, relatively speaking compared to other towns, but very community oriented nonetheless.

I am very in to supporting fun, community celebrations and gatherings.

Especially when there is beer! :) Come on. You know me!!! :)

Oktoberfest in Carbondale (our neighboring town and where ladd works 5 days a week) has a pretty fun and popular gathering. We've gone both Octobers we've been in the area.

Good Times!!!

Some girl won this glass shoe/mug in a competition that day.

Our "souvenir of the day", a 12 oz. commemorative mug.

A glimpse at one of the menus.

Ahhhh, the pretzels. Gotta love the pretzels.

halloween 2008

I am really digging this holiday. As I get older, it gets more fun in a different way than I'm used to.
I love costumes.
I love parties.
I love costume parties.

Below are the pictures from my Halloween evening.
It started at the Brewpub, because I had a shift to work that night. Most people dress up there on this day and there is a contest.

Afterwards, one of my good friends from the vet tech program (and the Brewpub) and her boyfriend threw their annual Halloween bash, and that's where it all started to get good!!!

Disclaimer: do not be offended by these costumes (especially mine). It is all in fun.

Jon and Nikita are coworkers from the Brewpub. They were "Rob & Big" (I think that's right) from some MTV reality TV show. Nikita is a girl dressed as a big man and there was at least one customer that didn't realize at first that she was actually a woman. :)

Bruce and Megan. The Costume Party hosts. She was Brian the dog and he was Stewie from the show Family Guy.

And yours truly:
I was Bristol "pull out method" Palin and Ladd was "Spider Man". He printed a bunch of pictures of spiders from the Internet and taped them to his shirt. :)
If you are seriously offended by my costume, (which I don't think you really should be), don't, because it is a metaphor. Briton's situation is an example of thousands of girls every year who get pregnant because of lack of EDUCATION. Its the irony of the situation that is funny. By the way... my sign says "abstinence only programs work!!!", hence the irony.
I only give this disclaimer b/c there are a few strict conservatives out there that may need the explanation....

Moving on....

Ladd had the brilliant idea of getting a picture of us as if I was in labor. If only I could figure out how to caption this....

Scott was our manager at the brewpub, but after too many drinks, he lost the funny part of his costume. :)

Beer Pong. A typical game at the Krichner/Ketchum house.

an 80's aerobics instructor. She wore this to work, people!!! She won 1st place at work.

BrewPub girls

Perfection!!!!

selfish is not a dirty word

I just heard that on an Oprah episode.

Such a fantastic concept.

They ask: Would you treat yourself less respectfully than your child? (in different words, probably)

Such as: would you miss your Doctors appointments, take away play time, etc....

The message is so much clearer to me now.

I had already begun to learn a few years ago (through LOTS of therapy) that selfish isn't always a bad thing, but in this society it is a negative word that stands for negative behavior. I had to over come that.

This way of explaining it: "selfish is not a dirty word", sums it up with so much more clarity.

Women, especially you moms out there. You deserve your selfish time.

Remember this.

Honor this.

For the first time in our lives (or maybe just some of you) you can believe that being selfish is not only healthy and positive, but essential to being a more COMPLETE you.

'Change has come to America'

I am at peace.

Obama has won and I am at peace.

This nations priorities are going to change. For the better.

We needed this.

I am at peace knowing there were so many of you voters out there who craved this change, too.

This is a historical night.
May the African-Americans be flooded with peace, hope, and confidence, tonight.

BREAKING NEWS
Obama to be first African-American president (CNN)

I exercised my right to vote, today

A.W.E.S.O.M.E.

I made it to the polls on time this election!
Last presidential election, I was seriously 2 minutes late to the poles and didn't get to vote. Lame-O!

Not this year!
I voted.
No lines.
No worries.
No problems.
